You'd love to book that holiday without worrying you won't be able to enjoy it. To say yes to social events without the mental calculation of 'can I handle this?' or 'how long will I have to stand?'

You're exhausted from constantly monitoring your body, waiting for those familiar warning signs.

Of course, googling 'Best exercises for back pain' or 'What's causing my pain' is met with an alarming amount of conflicting advice. Stretch more. Don't stretch. Strengthen your core. Rest completely. It's your posture. It's not your posture.

Endlessly searching for answers is exhausting.

Between trying to decipher what actually applies to YOUR pain and spending hundreds (maybe thousands) on treatments that don't last, you're starting to lose hope. Maybe this is just your life now. Maybe you're one of the unlucky ones who just has to 'live with it.'

And the icing on the cake, your scans have come back 'normal' and doctors aren't validating you. But you know this isn't normal. You know something is going on.

Here's where I come in, MSc in Sport Science in hand, personal experience of severe chronic pain behind me, and a completely different approach ahead of you... 

Trust me, I've been where you are and I know a path out.

Here's my story.

I spent my childhood and teenage years as an elite gymnast and lived in a world where pain was a badge of honour - the old 'No pain, no gain' adage. 

Even after I left gymnastics, that pattern stuck.

Through university, into my 20s and early 30s - I just powered through. Painful periods? Doctors told me it was normal. Constant back stiffness and tweaks? Everyone gets those, right?

I was managing a demanding business - and wearing all the other hats that so many women do. And like so many women, I put my own body's signals at the bottom of the priority list.

And boy did that come back to get me!

The pain became all encompassing with severe joint flares leaving me unable to move for weeks. I spent thousands on physios, osteopaths, specialists - never with lasting answers. I was prescribed pain medication that barely touched the sides and bounced around referral departments in the NHS.

Then came the breaking point: a camping trip that ended with me crawling through marshland, unable to walk.

Back to my physio the next day for a routine neck adjustment, and then later at home, the tiniest movement triggered a complete 10/10 joint flare.

 

 

I'd suspected for a while that something else was going on.

That none of the doctors or specialists were understanding the full picture. And in that moment, lying on the floor and flooded with anxiety at the thought of having to endure yet another episode, I knew something had to change and I knew no one was going to change it for me. 

So I used my science background to research everything I could find about pain. And I discovered there's been a rapid and revolutionary jump forwards in our understanding in the last 5-10 years - concepts that had never been considered in my treatment plans.

So I kept researching and implementing my new knowledge. And guess what...in six weeks, I went from 8/10 daily pain to mostly pain-free days.

Since then...

  • I haven't had a major flare-up. I can garden for hours, travel, and trust my body again
  • I became an Accredited Pain Specialist
  • I developed the Katie-Jean method, combining pain system education with nervous system retraining to help other women who are where I was.

Because chronic pain can be complex, but getting out of it doesn't need to be. And nothing excites me more than teaching you how to do just that.
